Washington, DC, August 6, 2026 National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) commends New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill for nominating Michael Embrich to serve as the state's first-ever Veteran Advocate, marking a significant milestone in strengthening accountability and support for New Jersey's veteran community. The Office of the Veteran Advocate was established to serve as an independent advocate for veterans, investigate complaints regarding veterans' services, and help ensure veterans receive the care, dignity, and respect they have earned through their service.
"As Americans, we ask extraordinary things of the men and women who serve in uniform," said Retired Navy Rear Admiral Michael Smith, Founder and President of NSL4A. "I applaud Governor Sherrill for appointing Michael Embrich as New Jersey's first-ever Veteran Advocate. This is an innovative and vital step to help protect America's warriors when they return home. Independent oversight and a dedicated advocate help ensure veterans receive the care, services, and respect they have earned through their sacrifice."
The creation of the Office of the Veteran Advocate reflects a growing recognition that supporting veterans requires not only providing benefits, but also ensuring those systems remain transparent, accountable, and responsive. By establishing an independent office empowered to investigate concerns and advocate on behalf of veterans and their families, New Jersey is setting an example that other states should consider following.
